About us

Introduction

SEN+ (Senior Experience Network) is an online platform for sharing knowledge and work experiences. You can upload your knowledge in SEN+. You can look for the knowledge of other people. You can teach other people, or you can learn from other people. SEN+ also provides the typical tools of social networks for communication and information exchanging.

SEN+ has been designed to take advantage of the experience that people accumulates after years of work, and is a tool that can be useful for individuals (older workers, retired, but also young workers) and companies.

AAL Project funded
SEN+ has been developed by means of an AAL Project during the years from 2010 to 2013. This project has been funded by the Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Joint Programme and the national funding authorities of Spain, Germany and Italy.

Open source

SEN+ is built on open source software. Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available in source code form: the source code and certain other rights normally reserved for copyright holders are provided under an open-source license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software. The main software programs that we have used to develop SEN+ are the following:

  • Moodle: Moodle is a software package for producing Internet-based courses and web sites. It is a global development project designed to support a social constructionist framework of education.
  • Mahara: Mahara is a stand-alone system that can be integrated into a wider virtual learning framework. Mahara’s architecture is inspired by the modular, extensible architecture of Moodle. The Mahara team has also been heavily involved in the Moodle community, with recent work mostly focused on Moodle Networks. Similarly, Mahara systems can be networked together as well having single sign-on from Moodle 1.9 upwards.
